Scheduled bus services-Eastleigh

This initiative aims to encourage greater use of local buses for journeys to school in the Eastleigh area. The project will aim to see that bus timetables suit school start and finish times where possible, and that there are enough seats available at the right time. Providing information and promoting the services available will feature highly in this pilot, which will offer personalised travel planning, a web-based journey planner, and incentives for pupils who switch to the bus on a regular basis.

The pilot schools in Eastleigh are Fryern Junior, St Swithun Wells Catholic Voluntary Aided, Crestwood College, Thornden School and Toynbee school. Work so far has included:

• extending morning 507 to Valley Park
and re-timing the afternoon journey to better
suit school finish time at the Toynbee School
• Bus 507 now serves Velmore in the afternoon

• setting up a new BusIT website and
journey planner
• BusIT cards allowing school travel for £1 a day
